Welcome to the GeoEarthscope SAR Data Archive at
UNAVCO.
A goal of EarthScope is the improved understanding of the tectonic evolution of the North American continent.
Identifying and understanding deformation rates in all tectonic regimes is critical to reaching that goal.
GeoEarthScope, a part of the EarthScope Program, includes the acquisition of SAR data and aerial and satellite imagery
and geochronology to examine the strain field beyond the decade time scales available from the PBO geodetic instrumentation.
UNAVCO provides support for EarthScope-related data aquisition, archiving, and distributiuon.

GeoEarthscope InSAR Archive News
|
GeoEarthscope staff at UNAVCO orders SAR data from flight agencies, collects it, archives it,
and provides online data search and access methods for
approved users from the UNAVCO archives.
This data will aid research into earth deformation in
western North America caused by earthquakes, volcanoes, and other plate tectonic processes.
UNAVCO archives and makes data available for GeoEarthscope data users.
We provide data from ESA (ERS1, ERS2, and
Envisat missions), and the CSA Radarsat. JAXA ALOS PALSAR data will be available from
from the Alaska Satellite Facility and from WInSAR to conserve
data purchase funds in GeoEarthscope.
Proposed, submitted, and received data and tasking orders can be seen on the
data orders page.
Details regarding the scenes to be requested in the Basin and Range Cat-1 proposal are available
here. See also the archive Status page.
You can search the current archive holdings with the
SAR Archive search tool.
You can get Google Earth KML files that show the archived SAR scenes
locations with Google Earth.

UNAVCO Operations Status, May 2008
|
As of 1 May 2008 there are more than 23,000 SAR scenes in the archive
(current status page).
Our current goals are to complete data orders with ESA, continue receiving data from ESA and ASF,
and improve services with the guidence of data users.
Data has been ordered from ASF and ESA, and more orders are being submitted (see the
data orders page).
ASF has delivered some 7 TB of data to UNAVCO: ERS and RADARSAT data. ESA supplies ERS and Envisat files.
The SAR data received is stored in the GeoEarthscope 40 TB archive (servers and RAID) at UNAVCO.

UNAVCO Hosts GeoEarthscope SAR Archives
|
UNAVCO's main tasks include placing, managing, and tracking data
orders, working with ASF, ESA, and other data providers,
designing and implementing a database to support archiving and and data search, building the
physical data archive including hardware and
selection and purchase of more than 40 terabytes of storage,
implementing data access permissions,
and creating online and web services for users to find and download data available in the archive.
| Access to GeoEarthscope Data
|
Institutions with a basic research mission are eligible to apply for access to GeoEarthscope InSAR data.
Access to GeoEarthscope data files
is limited to approved and registered users.
To apply for data access use the
Mini Cat-1 submission form.
| Funding for UNAVCO GeoEarthscope operations and
data acqusitions is provided by NSF and NASA. Important assistance has also been provided by the ESA, the USGS, and the ASF. |
